News
As well as weekly meetings, and our study and practice at home, Mahasandhi Buddhist group members have been fortunate to attend the following teachings:
Visit to Dzogchen Monastery summer 2009
One of our founder members travelled to Dzogchen, stayed in Pema Tung Retreat Centre and did a 21-day retreat, which included receiving the Empowerment of Holy Objects and the Manjushri Empowerment, and attending teachings and practice in Pema Tung temple with monks, nuns and devout visitors from countries worldwide. She was also permitted to attend bardo teachings specially requested from Kyabje Rinpoche.
May 2009 We travelled to Chichester to an event organised by the Bodicharya Buddhist group to attend three days of teachings by the Tibetan Buddhist Kagyu master, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, whose teachers included HH the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa and HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Ringu Tulku Rinpoche refers to himself as “the lazy Lama” and this is typical of his down to earth approach in making the Dharma accessible and easier to understand. The third day concluded with a celebration for the first anniversary of Rinpoche’s charity Rigul, with a feast in the form of an offering mandala.
We also attended Ringu Tulku Rinpoche’s teachings in May 2010; the first day Rinpoche taught on ‘A Buddhist perspective on dealing with change and loss’. The second day’s teachings were from a quotation: “Amidst the clouds of impermanence and illusion dances the lightning of life”. This quotation is taken from the poem ‘The Great Medicine – A Remedy that Conquers Clinging to Reality’ by the master Shechen Gyaltsap Pema Namgyal, who was a root teacher of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.
A member of our group has done two retreats in Samye Ling in Scotland; a week in 2009 including a Avalokiteshvara puja, and a week in 2010 for Nondro practice. She also attended teachings by Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche in Brighton in summer ’09 & 2010.
Sunday 5 September 2010: Isle of Wight Buddhists’ summer picnic in Ventnor Botanic Gardens, organised by West Wight Sangha. We met Buddhist friends old and new, shared lunch and had fun in the sun.
